Academic Common Market Program
The Academic Common Market is a tuition-savings program for college students who want to pursue degrees that are not offered by public institutions or are at least 50 percent different in curricular content than programs offered in South Carolina. Students can enroll in out-of-state institutions and pay the institution’s in-state tuition rates for more than 2,200 undergraduate and graduate programs. The ACM is not competitive or merit based, but applicants must meet state residency and college admission requirements. Participating states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia (Florida and Texas participate at the graduate level only).
Palmetto Calculator
The SC Commission on Higher Education, has developed a “Palmetto Calculator” to help students understand the cost of attending some of SC public colleges or universities. Students can enter their FAFSA “Estimated Family Contribution” as well as other scholarships, loans, etc. to help determine cost. Visit the Palmetto Calculator for more information.
Don’t see the college you want to attend on the “Palmetto Calculator”? Every college has a “net price calculator” so visit the financial aid page of your chosen colleges/universities website for more informationJohns Hopkins University - Resources for students
3 tips for a productive summer from John Hopkins |
College search |
Start the college search by reviewing college admissions websites. Your students can explore these websites to see a quick overview of each college’s academics, community, and admissions process.
|
Involvement |
Emphasize the importance of getting involved. Your students can consider ways to extend their impact beyond school like volunteering in their community, working a summer job, or participating in college summer programs. Hopkins offers several programs, including Summer at Hopkins and Engineering Innovation, where they can meet like-minded peers and dig deeper into their interests. Participation in a summer program at Hopkins does not give an advantage to applicants during the admissions process. |
Events |
Encourage your students to attend virtual or on-campus events. Hearing directly from an admissions counselor or current college students can help high school students get a sense of what the university values and what kind of students thrive in their community.
