Standing Ovation

GO SOA!

Both the middle school and the high school at Charleston School of the Arts (SOA) have been recognized by the SC Dept. of Education with 2010-2011 South Carolina Palmetto Gold Awards for Overall Performance/Achievement and for Closing the Achievement Gap.

Our middle school is one of only three elementary or middle schools in Charleston County to receive a "Gold Award" in Closing the Achievement Gap.  Moreover, SOA Middle School is one of only three middle schools in the state to be recognized with a "Gold Award" in Closing the Achievement Gap.

SOA High School was one of six in the county receiving a "Gold Award" in Overall Performance/Achievement and also one of five to receive the "Gold Award" in Closing the Achievement Gap.

Both the middle school and high school have received a 2010 Excellent Absolute Rating on the school report cards from the SC Dept. of Education.

These recognitions are shared by our students, staff and families.  SOA continues to SOAR in Arts & Academics.

SOA was recognized by the US News & World Report Magazine/Company with a Silver Medal in their annual report of the nations best high schools. Data was gathered on over 21,000 public high schools across the country.
We placed second overall in the state.
SC recognitions by the reporting service:

From the Principal

The School of the Arts is a county-wide magnet school that blends intensive artistic instruction with a strong academic program for nearly 1,000 students in grades 6-12. Students receive daily instruction in their major art area and participate in a challenging academic curriculum that includes college preparatory, honors, and advanced placement courses. School of the Arts students have distinguished themselves creatively and academically since the school began in 1995. Applications are based upon auditions in art majors in creative writing, dance, instrumental band, string orchestra, vocal music, piano, theatre, and visual art. Students may apply in two areas but are only accepted in one. Auditions are extremely competitive.
